Got home from Peru on August 21st. I was spilling over. A trip like that happens once in a lifetime if you’re lucky, and I was incredibly lucky.
An early 60th birthday present from my sister, it’s a gift that will keep giving for the rest of my days, I’m quite sure. Peru is amazing, the Andes are mind-blowing, and our personal adventure there changed me for the best in a hundred different ways. I hope I can tell you about each one of ‘em.
I’ve been writing about it, but it’s slow going. On the 23rd, I tested positive for Covid. First time. I’ve been sicker than I ever remember being and I’m still testing positive. So, I have the time to write, but my god— the brain fog and exhaustion, in addition to the flu-like symptoms and sinus infection symptoms and respiratory infection symptoms and non-stop coughing and headaches and the sense of isolation and frustration…well, you get the idea.
Anyway, I wanted to check in. I feel a responsibility to this substack and y’all— especially those who’ve paid good money to subscribe— and I take that responsibility to heart. I promise as soon as I kick covid’s ass, I’ll be back with some words and pictures from my trip that’ll hopefully do it justice. A tall order because it was, in large part, indescribably beautiful.
That said, I’m determined to not let this stupid virus overshadow what was the most epic trip I’ve ever been on. And I’ll never let it overtake my gratitude and love for my sister Beth for making it happen. Thank you sissy for being beside me every dusty, sometimes shaky step of the way. It was 10 days of unrepeatable magic. I am the luckiest hermana, and I know it.
Happy September, y’all —and if someone could let still 100º AZ know it’s not July, that’d be great. I’ll be in touch real soon, and please keep yourselves safe and healthy as we careen into the fall season.

Gentle care as you regain your strength. Very excited to hear of your travels. 🇵🇪❤️
Even Oregon thinks it's still July. Ugh. Hope you're feeling better soon. Covid, like weather, is an a-hole.
